Key Stage 2 explained
At the end of Year 3
I can greet in Spanish and answer how I feel. I can give some personal information about myself (my name, my age, my birthday, my family, my favourite animal, colour, fruit and hobbies). I can talk about likes and dislikes and join a Show & Tell fully in Spanish. I will also learn some parts of my body and different places in the city.
At the end of Year 4
I can write a small text about myself. I can understand that Spanish is spoken in 21 countries and I know about the Mexican celebration “Day of the Dead”. I understand that Spanish pronunciation is different and I know the sounds and I also know that Spanish nouns can be masculine or feminine. I can describe a monster using the third person “Tiene”, different parts of the body and basic describing adjectives.
At the end of Year 5
I can talk about my likes and dislikes by adding an opinion or a contrast. I can confidently ask and answer some questions about myself and also about my learning in the classroom. I can confidently say the date and the weather and I can also talk about my week schedule and my feelings. I will create a restaurant menu in Spanish and learn a basic role play to order some food in a restaurant and also how to tell a doctor that one part of my body hurts.
At the end of Year 6
I can tell and ask the time and the daily activities that I do. I will learn how to describe my city using adjectives “Hay muchos or pocos/ Es muy bonita”. I will learn about the planets and I will do some projects that cover all our KS2 learning (one about animals and their features and habitats and another one about a Spanish speaking country and their traditions, weather, traditional clothes, currency, food and famous people).
