At the end of Year 3 (KS2)

I can greet in Spanish and answer how I feel. I can give some personal information about myself (my name, my age, my birthday, my family, my favourite animal, colour, fruit and hobbies). I can talk about likes and dislikes and join a Show & Tell fully in Spanish. I will also learn some parts of my body and different places in the city.

At the end of Year 4 (KS2)

I can write a small text about myself. I can understand that Spanish is spoken in 21 countries and I know about the Mexican celebration “Day of the Dead”. I understand that Spanish pronunciation is different and I know the sounds and I also know that Spanish nouns can be masculine or feminine. I can describe a monster using the third person “Tiene”, different parts of the body and basic describing adjectives.

At the end of Year 5 (KS2)

I can talk about my likes and dislikes by adding an opinion or a contrast. I can confidently ask and answer some questions about myself and also about my learning in the classroom. I can confidently say the date and the weather and I can also talk about my week schedule and my feelings. I will create a restaurant menu in Spanish and learn a basic role play to order some food in a restaurant and also how to tell a doctor that one part of my body hurts.

At the end of Year 6 (KS2)

I can tell and ask the time and the daily activities that I do. I will learn how to describe my city using adjectives “Hay muchos or pocos/ Es muy bonita”. I will learn about the planets and I will do some projects that cover all our KS2 learning (one about animals and their features and habitats and another one about a Spanish speaking country and their traditions, weather, traditional clothes, currency, food and famous people).

At the end of Year 7 (KS3)

I can greet people and introduce myself. I know the Spanish speaking countries, can name colours and can count up to 100. I understand masculine and feminine and plural nouns and can describe animal and talk about pets. I can describe personalities and what others look like and in grammar I am learning the use of the present tense: regular and irregular verbs.

At the end of Year 8 (KS3)

I can talk about the place and area where I live. I can describe types of houses and rooms and talk about what I eat and drink. I can give opinions on food and talk about holidays, travel and transport and describe past holiday experiences. In terms of grammar I am using the near future and the use of the preterite tense: regular and irregular verbs and I have extended the use of verbs like gustar. I am learning prepositions of place and I know when to use ser and estar. I am also using adverbs of frequency.

At the end of Year 9 (KS3)

I can discuss the internet and social media, TV programming and describe my musical taste. I use the future tense to discuss jobs and careers and I can talk about our daily routines while using reflexive verbs. I can talk about fashion and where to buy clothes and discuss relationships including friends and family. I can talk about trips and life in different Hispanic cities and I use the conditional when discussing possible situations.

At the end of Year 10 (GCSE)

I can talk about daily routines using the present tense regular and irregular verbs and I use time and frequency when asking classmates about activities during the week and weekend. I can talk about family and friends and describe their appearance and personality and the relationship I have with them. I use the preterite tense when talking about holidays and things I have done in the past. I can also talk about my house and the different rooms as well as my neighbourhood and city or town. I can talk about social media and speak about the advantages and disadvantages of using it. I can talk about food, my likes and diet and also a conversation in a restaurant. I use the future tense to speak about plans and holidays and I can talk about different festivals in the Hispanic world.

At the end of Year 11 (GCSE)

I can talk about the environmental and social problems with classmates and about studies at school and future plans when we finish school. I can talk about future career, ambitions, work for young people and different professions and answer basic questions in a job interview. I can talk about some of the main problems affecting young people in our society using the Past Tenses (Indefinido, Perfecto & Imperfecto) to talk about different events, habits or experiences and I can talk about different places I have been to on holiday and how to book a room in a hotel.

At the end of Year 12 (AS)

I can discuss the culture of different Hispanic countries including art and literature and speak about cyberspace and the influence in current society. I use the present and perfect subjunctive tense to express doubt, wishes, and emotions and I can speak about past events, about influential people and their purpose in society. I use connectives and idiomatic expressions to enhance conversation style and I can talk about diversity and inclusion and human rights.

At the end of Year 13 (A Level)

I can talk about immigration, racism and integration. I can discuss the importance of politics and trade unions. I am aware of the different regimes and governments that Hispanic countries have had. I am able to express opinion and evaluation. I talk about data and trends. I can read for gist and details in different contexts. I use the “If” clause with the pluperfect and imperfect subjunctive. I can infer meaning from listening and reading. I effectively use the passive voice. When writing I can use synonyms, loan words and various structures to enrich my texts.
