You may have heard of Telenovelas (your parents sure have), these shows are soap operas on steroids, a lot of drama, twists, schemes, and romance. All the stories are super over the top and every child in a Latin American household grows up watching them on TV, they even make some for younger people!
You know the stereotype that Latin people are dramatic? It’s because we are, but can you blame us? We grow up watching all these crazy characters doing the craziest things, but it’s all so entertaining that we just roll with it.

Telenovelas are a staple of Latin American culture and back in the day these shows were exported worldwide, people in the Soviet Union (Russia and company today) loved them. Some of the most popular include: Yo soy Betty la fea, La ursurpadora, Corazón Salvaje, Rubi, Maria la del barrio, and many, maaaaaany more.
And if you’re younger than 15, you can try Alegrijes Y Rebujos or Atrévete a Soñar, those are examples of telenovelas for teens. We all love a good Cinderella story, and these are pretty fun.
This is a clip of Atrévete a soñar (Dare to dream), it’s a song all Mexican kids, teens and young adults know by heart:
Have fun learning!
