El chavo del ocho

You have probably not heard of this show, but it’s a very old sitcom that was launched in the 1970s. It was mostly popular in Latin America and became the biggest Mexican show of its time. But in 2006 it was turned into a cartoon that had 7 seasons and the reruns are still playing on national TV even today.

These characters are all dear to Latin American people’s hearts and all have their own quirks and fun storylines. The story of the show revolves around “el chavo” (“the boy”), an orphan boy who lives in this apartment building and hangs out with all the tenants. There’s the man who doesn’t have a job and never pays rent; the mom that spoils her son; the professor that teaches the children, the mailman, the grumpy neighbor, the owner of the building and all the children.

They are constantly running into problems and having a great time. It’s a very fun show and these drawings are based on the real people who played the characters back in the day!

You can see a short clip with the original Spanish version with English dubbing here.

Have fun learning!
