You may not be familiar with this name, but Raquel Forner is one of the most influential Latin American artists in history. She was born in Argentina, but she travelled to Spain as a child and that’s where her spark for art was born!
She was very interested in the Spanish Civil War and bringing touches of surrealism, light and drama to her works. She was part of Royal Society of Arts of England and won several awards during her career, but what set her apart from other artists was the series of paintings inspired by space mythology.
That’s right, she became interested in the space program, so she created lots of abstract paintings about that, and she became one of the first artists to depict, in some way, outer space.
